Shampoo based on your hair color: Blondes vs Brunettes

Hey you! Are you struggling with brassiness or orange and red undertones in your hair? Well the good news is that you don't have to book a hair appointment just yet. There are specific shampoos meant for both blondes & brunettes, to cancel out that brassy tone. We've all heard of purple shampoo, and if you're a blonde you probably have it in your shower right now. But what about brunettes? We have you covered. Here's why you might need a colored shampoo..

Purple Shampoo

If you're a blondie I'm sure you have one of these in your shower. Shimmer Lights is a purple based shampoo that is meant to cancel out any yellow or brassiness in your hair. Cool/ashy toned hair has been a huge trend & it isn't going anywhere. If that's your look, you need purple shampoo in your shower. Makes your color last longer + skip the hair salon!

How to use: Use once or twice a week at most after shampooing. Purple shampoo does not replace your normal shampoo. Leave on for a few minutes. Follow up by conditioning to keep hair moisturized.

Blue Shampoo

Someone who has light or medium brunette hair & is noticing brassy or orange tones, you would benefit from using a blue shampoo. The blue neutralizes any orange tones in your hair.

How to use: Use at most once a week to cancel out any orange or red tones in brown hair. Lather & rinse or leave on for 2-3 minutes. Follow with a conditioner to keep hair moisturized.

Green Shampoo

Anyone with dark brown or black hair, green shampoo. The green cancels out any unwanted red tones leaving you with a rich dark hair color shade. If you have a deep brunette color but like to go out in the sun, and you notice red hints, try out a green shampoo!

How to use: Use on dark brown or black hair to cancel out red tones. Once a week or when you notice any red tones popping up. Follow with a conditioner to keep hair moisturized.

Matrix Dark Envy Shampoo, $20

Color Depositing Hair Mask

This is an interesting one to add in there... but some of you might benefit from this. There is such thing as a color depositing hair mask. It provides temporary color + the same benefits a hair mask would give you.

Moroccanoil Color Depositing Mask, $8-$30
